The Bee Ascending, 2021
In the summer of 2021, I received a grant from City Artist Corps in association with New York Foundation for the Arts to create a mural in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. This was part of a larger initiative to bring beauty and culture to the city after the first full year of the Covid-19 pandemic.
At night this mural gets to bask in the neon glow from the deli lights next door
This mural was inspired by the idea of rebirth -- a concept the city was yearning to embody in the summer of 2021. It also aimed to draw the viewer’s attention to climate change, and the plight of pollinators, in a way that would be beautiful and somehow hopeful despite the grim subject matter.
